Spring 2021 Foundation Conversation “Money and Your Homestead"

Phil and Eric our studio guest for the day. Thanks guys!

In this episode we change things up a bit with a round table discussion with our good friend Eric Western and my husband (Alexes here) Phil about one of the things we dread thinking about let alone talking about, “How much will it cost and can we afford it?” that’s right we are talking about money.

In this insightful conversation we discuss what we should realistically expect to budget for when looking at buying land or thinking about the kinds of things we will need to spend money on once we buy that land. It is a discussion founded on reality and our combined real experiences having bought land of our own, but it is also a conversation filled with optimism. It is not impossible to find, purchase and develop your own beautiful part of the world you just need to have an understanding of what you can afford and what it is going to take to develop that land. Size doesn’t equate to viability, as we say here at the Homesteading School, “Every house no matter how big or small can be productive, functional and beautiful”

Autumn 2021-"Emotional and Spiritual Capital" with Alexes and Phil

Here we discuss our first form of capital for the year, Emotional and Spiritual Capital. This is the most important but least obtained or understood form of capital. We talk about the "mental narratives" that form patterns in how we think about and respond to the world around us. We also talk about finding your "why" and your "values" and a group of like-minded people to go on the homesteading journey with.
